SIKINDE – Dance orchestra / Tanzanian rumba
Formerly
known as DDC Mlimani Park Orchestra, Sikinde is one of the greatest
Tanzanian dance bands of all time. Although the group was first formed
in 1978 they embody the sound of independence, which took place in
Tanzania in 1961, since the founding members came from the pre
independence groups Dar es Salaam Jazz Band and the workers union band
Ottu Jazz Band. While many of the older orchestras in Tanzania have lost
or replaced many of their founding members, Sikinde is perhaps the
oldest orchestra who still have most their founding members in their
group. Don't miss this opportunity to see one of Tanzanias greatest
orchestras performing classic Tanzanian rumba lead by the charismatic
lead singer Hassan Bichuka.
MOPOA JAZZ TRIO – Afro Jazz
This
trio is lead by Jazz guitarist Emmanual Abraham Mopao who is steadily
becoming one of the authorities on the Dar es Salaam Jazz scene. Towards
the end of last year he released his first solo album and toured with
his trio project as the opening act for the Mzungu Kichaa tour in
Germany and Denmark. He is a self taught and hard working musician,
inspired by African Jazz stars such as Jimmy Dludlu and Hugh Masekela as
well as the American Jazz standard traditions. His performance is based
on improvisation and is a rare treat for Dar es Salaam Jazz
enthusiasts.
KIFIMBO – Afrofusion / Reggae
Kifimbo
is a reggae-afrofusion artist from Dar es Salaam who is respected on
the Tanzanian reggae scene for his high energy on stage. His up-tempo
songs never seize to put his audience in a good mood. He is based in
Bagamoyo where he does different farming activities when he isn’t doing
music. He performed his first performance at THE BEAT last year and
surprised us all with his high-energy performance. We look forward to
welcoming him back to THE BEAT!
BLACK FIT – Reggae / Dancehall
Hussein Badru Hussein, whose artist name is Black Fit, started his musical career
in 1995 while he was still a “street boy”. He gained experience through
participating in Street festivals and managed to record his first album
“Harakati za Mweusi” in 2014. In 2007, he participated in one of the
biggest Festivals of that time, held at the “Makumbusho Village Museum,
“YA KALE YANAPOKUTANA NA YA SASA FESTIVAL”, and won 3rd prize which
boosted his name on the scene. In 2009 he won the first prize during the
same festival. Flack Fit has been studying at Music Mayday with an EU
scholarship, perfecting his skills in both performance and self
management through their 2 year music program.
